Brien M. O'Brien, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Brien M. O’Brien has spent the majority of his 37-year career building and leading investment management firms. Prior to establishing Port Capital, Brien co-founded and served as Chairman and CEO of Advisory Research Inc., an investment management firm operating across global markets. Under his leadership, it became one of the leading value investment management firms in the country.

Brien is the Chair of the Board of Trustees at University of Chicago Medicine and also serves as a Trustee of the University of Chicago. He is a member of the Board of the National Parks Foundation and President of the Board of Trustees of the Sheriffs Meadow Foundation, an accredited land trust based in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Brien graduated with honors from Boston College with a B.S. in Finance and Theology.


Brad Schatz, President

Brad Schatz brings more than 20 years of investment experience to the firm. Brad is a fundamental, value-based portfolio manager focused on investing in small- and mid-cap companies. Before joining Port Capital, Brad spent nine years as a portfolio manager and senior analyst with San Francisco-based Snyder Capital Management. Prior to this, he was a portfolio manager at a multi-strategy investment firm and a senior analyst at Rothschild Asset Management. Brad received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and both a B.S. in Finance and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder.


Ed Loeb, Partner

Ed Loeb brings over 29 years of investment experience to Port Capital. He is a member of the Executive Committee and plays a key role in the overall management of the firm. Ed works with both individual and institutional clients to develop and implement investment strategies. Before joining Port Capital, Ed spent 26 years at Harris Associates where he was a Partner and Portfolio Manager, constructing and managing separate account portfolios for individuals and institutions. He began his career as an analyst at investment bank Wertheim Schroder & Co. Ed currently serves on the Executive Committee of Erikson Institute, as well as several other non-profit boards. Ed earned his M.B.A., with honors, from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and received a B.A. in Economics, with honors, from Princeton University.


Tracy Rothmeyer, Partner

Tracy Rothmeyer brings more than 24 years of investment experience to the firm, with a focus on client service, account operations and administration. Prior to joining Port Capital, Tracy spent 19 years as a vice president with Chicago-based investment management firm Advisory Research, Inc., where she oversaw and administered client accounts for high net worth individuals, corporate clients, retirement plans, foundations, and endowments.  She served as the firm’s liaison with strategic industry partners including custodians, auditors and third party administrators. Tracy received her B.S. in Business Management with a minor in Psychology from Bradley University.
